About our project
The project aims to explore curriculum provision in Scottish secondary schools and the relationships between patterns of provision and educational outcomes and transitions. In particular we seek to:
- Explore what factors shape curriculum policy enactment;
- Understand how emerging curriculum practices impact the lives of young people;
- Develop new understanding about how contemporary curriculum policy is enacted in schools.
The project will adopt a staged approach (see diagram below). In particular, the study will combine the analysis of existing secondary data (e.g. Scottish Population Census data linked with administrative education data) with the generation of new data (survey, interview and focus group data) about curriculum provision and accompanying processes of decision making, including the role of teachers, students and their families in these decisions. The production of detailed case-studies will allow for a greater understanding of the processes of decision-making in curriculum provision. This project runs from October 2019 – September 2021.
